At Al Mamlaka in the Kingdom Centre, the Middle East's tallest building complex, a respect for Islamic culture shaped the design of the retail center. The complex is organized around a large central atrium where natural light streams through clerestory windows. Ceiling screens mitigate the desert sun into while creating super-scaled patterns in the grand hall. On the third level, which is reserved for women only, the design puts the abbayeh- the veil worn by women - within the building to create a private bazaar within a bazaar.
